For International Women’s Day, we're celebrating these impressive female founders that are at the forefront of driving the sustainability agenda. We hope you will support these female-founded, ethical brands that are challenging the norm.
Emilie Vanpoperinghe, Co-Founder of ODDBOX
Emilie is the Co-founder of Oddbox. They rescue wonky fruit and veg from farms and distributes them to customers in a monthly box subscription. The exciting part is that you will never know what you will get. It’s a great idea to eat more seasonally and experiment with recipes. Emilie has also been committed to speaking at public events to spotlight women in leadership. ODDBOX is a certified B Corporation.
Jenny Costa, Founder of Rubies in the Rubble
Jenny is the Founder and CEO of a condiments brand Rubies in the Rubble that is fighting food waste by sourcing rejected ingredients based on their size, shape or colour. They believe that there is more than enough food for all, yet still, not everyone has enough. Through their products ‘Rubies in the Rubble’ aims to champion the message of valuing our resources, making use of what we have, and, in turn, putting less pressure on the global food market. Rubies in the Rubble is a certified B Corporation.
Pippa Murray, Founder of Pip & Nut
Pippa is the founder of Pip & Nut, an all natural nut butter brand without any nasty ingredients. That's right up our alley. Focusing on nutrition and great tasting products, Pip & Nut can now be found in most supermarkets. Oh, and did we mention they are a B Crop too? Nut butter for change!
Tessa Clarke, Co-Founder & CEO of Olio
Tessa is another food waste warrior. Her app, Olio is tackling the problem of food waste by allowing neighbours and local business to share surplus food to prevent it from being sent to the landfill. The Olio network has grown to 2.6 million users in 4 years and restaurants like Pret donate tens of kilos of food every day.
Nikki Michelsen and Leah Remfry-Peploe, Co-Founders of ohne
Nikki and Leah found a period product brand that is reshaping the way women experience their menstrual cycles. With a range of organic period products and CBD oils, ohne provides women with the tools, data, and support they need to manage their entire cycles. Apart from educating the world about menstruation, Leah and Nikki have also created their brand with sustainability in mind. It’s a yay from us for biodegradable and plastic-free periods.
Katie Hill, Co-Founder of My Green Pod
Katie has combined her passion for investigative journalism and sustainability in My Green Pod magazine where she uncovers unethical business practices to reveal the truth about what is really in the products that we use every day. My Green Pod has been such a success, that she and her co-founder have also launched a marketplace where consumers can vote with their wallet for ethical choices for everyday items.
Mahira Kalim, Founder of Spruce
Our founder is a constant source of inspiration. Mahira has launched Spruce in the midst of the pandemic and has put the environment and equality into every decision behind the business. Spruce is a single-use plastic and toxin-free cleaning brand that makes your house smell like a spa, while doing good for the planet. Thank you to these trailblazing women for challenging stereotypes and spearheading environmental change.
