How to clean an oven without harsh chemicals

For decades, people have wondered how to clean an oven without harsh chemicals.  Pondered upon whether chemical-free alternatives are actually effective at tackling baked-on grease. And it’s a question worth asking considering oven cleaners are often the most corrosive and harmful products we come in contact with within general home cleaning. They catch the back of your throat and can cause nasty coughing fits. You even have to wear gloves to avoid skin contact.

Poison Control has warned that oven cleaners may be dangerous to skin, eyes and respiratory tract. In fact, they can cause chemical burns with skin contact and even damage your lungs permanently if you inhale the fumes. If you have asthma or other breathing problems, the effects can be particularly scary. So it’s no shock that putting these chemicals in the very thing we cook our food in, seems like a risk not worth taking.

After experimenting with many natural options, we think we’ve finally found the holy grail combination for cleaning an oven. Baking soda and the Spruce kitchen cleaning kit.
